Extra – Family Sand Blending Ceremony

Family Sand Blending Ceremony

Above you can see a Family Sand Blending Ceremony with three colours.  Notice how nicely they blend, and now one side is completely different looking than the other.  We think it of as a thing of beauty that symbolizes the uniting of one happy family.

Idea 1:

(Spouse1) and (Spouse2), today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other and honor your children as well. Each container and colour of sand representing your uniqueness and all that you bring to this family.  You are all individuals, yet each an important part of this new family.

There are children who will share in this marriage. (Names of the Children) will now come forward to help us with the Blending of the Sands. The gathering of this new family will have a deep influence upon them. We realize that in order for the home to be a happy one, it is essential that there be love and understanding between the children and the adults being married.

As you each hold your sand the separate containers of sand represent your lives to this moment; individual and unique. As you now combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family.

Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your family be.

Idea 2

Now we are going to perform a Family Sand Blending Ceremony.  Today (Spouse1) and (Spouse2) are uniting in marriage, and there are also children involved in creating this new family.  Each of you will now be represented by a container and a color of sand.  Together as we pour the individual containers of sand into the third they will be blended together forever – as today you are being united into one family.

Please take turns pouring your sand, and symbolize the joining of you all as one big happy family.

Let it also remind you that each of you bring something special and unique to this family. That you can not be replace, and if one is missing, it is no longer whole.
